William Rutger | Executive Director, Sandusky Library
Born and raised in Castalia, William Rutger grew up at Back to the Wild, the nonprofit founded by his parents. A 1998 graduate of St. Mary Central Catholic, he earned his bachelor’s degree in liberal studies from Bowling Green State University and a master’s in library and information science from Wayne State University.
A lifelong public servant, William began his library career in 1996 as a student Page at Sandusky Library. Over the years, he has worked in both academic and public libraries, including Bowling Green State University Firelands, before serving as Director of the Milan-Berlin Library District, Ashland Public Library, and Avon Lake Public Library. In 2025, he returned home to Sandusky Library as Executive Director, bringing with him more than 25 years of experience in library leadership and community engagement.
William is a father of three — his daughter, Ezri, sons, Oz and Zeke. Outside of the library, he enjoys spending time with his family and connecting with others through local efforts and activities.
