Automation/Process Engineer

Summary: 

The Automation/Process Engineer drives manufacturing performance at AutoGate by implementing automation and process improvements that increase throughput, reduce labor hours, improve quality, and maximize ROI on capital investments.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Lead the design, programming, and optimization of manufacturing automation systems, including robotics, cobots, and automated welding applications.

Integrate automation technologies with existing operations and business systems (Epicor) to improve visibility, performance, and scalability.

Troubleshoot and resolve issues with automated equipment to minimize downtime and maintain consistent production flow.

Analyze production performance using time studies, value stream mapping, and data analysis to identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies.

Develop and implement solutions to improve material flow, increase throughput, and enhance overall production efficiency without increasing headcount whenever possible.

Optimize fabrication and welding processes to ensure consistent, high-quality output.

  • Evaluate, select, and implement capital equipment (Purchase), tooling, and automation solutions with clear ROI justification.
  • Support capital planning through cost-benefit analysis, vendor coordination, and data-driven recommendations.
  • Maximize equipment utilization and ensure effective return on capital investments.
  • Establish and maintain standardized processes, SOPs, and best practices across manufacturing operations.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to drive sustainable performance gains.
  • Monitor key performance metrics and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Engineering, and Quality teams to execute improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and deliver training to ensure proper use and adoption of automation systems and processes.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and industry standards.
  • Stay current with emerging automation technologies and identify opportunities for implementation.
  • Serve as a technical resource and drive modernization of manufacturing systems and infrastructure.

Education and/or Experience
                                             

Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial, Automation, or related Engineering field.

5+ years of experience in manufacturing automation and process engineering.

5+ years of hands-on experience with robotics, cobots, and HMI systems.

2+ years of CNC programming, tooling, or machining experience.

2+ years designing and integrating automation systems, including PLCs and controls.

Strong background in process improvement, lean manufacturing, or continuous improvement.

Personal Protective Equipment 

The individual in this role is required to follow all established safety protocols while working in production areas. Safety glasses with side shields must be worn at all times when performing duties on the shop floor. Safety-toe footwear is also required in all production areas. Open-toe shoes and sandals are not permitted in any production or manufacturing spaces.
