Position Summary
GSP is seeking a motivated Destination Management Intern to support GSP’s Destination Sandusky and Destination Huron programs and initiatives under the Sr. Director of Destination Management. This is a hands-on opportunity for a for a rising junior or senior (first- and second-year students also considered) to gain real-world experience in planning, organizing and executing community events and placemaking programs.

Key Responsibilities

Sandusky Sunset Celebration (Lead Responsibility)

• Curate and book bands and artists
• Coordinate logistics from start to finish
• Manage event set-up and tear-down
• Create and post social media content before and during the event
• Execute sponsor activations on-site
• Coordinate artist payments and required documentation
• Serve as on-site lead under supervision of Destination Management staff

Programming Support Across Department

• Assist with band and artist curation for:
  • Sandusky Farmers Market
  • Halloween Capital of Ohio
  • Party at the Pier
  • Other departmental initiatives
• Maintain and update a running list/database of artists and performers on behalf of GSP
• Assist with vendor and performer communications

Marketing & Content Creation

• Support social media creation for summer programming
• Capture event photography and short-form video content
• Assist with marketing efforts across platforms
• Help build and execute promotional timelines

General Event Support

• Assist with summer programming across the department
• Provide on-site event support as needed
• Help ensure events are organized, timely, and professionally executed

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the internship, the selected candidate will gain exposure to

• Direct ownership of a weekly public event
• Real-world experience in event production from concept to execution
• Experience working with sponsors, artists, vendors, and community partners
• Portfolio-building opportunities in marketing and programming
• Exposure to destination management and placemaking strategy

Qualifications

• Junior or senior preferred
• Pursuing a degree in Event Planning/Management, Hospitality & Tourism, Marketing, Communications, Business Administration or another related field
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Familiarity with social media platforms and trends
• Highly organized, detail-oriented and ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment

Schedule & Work Environment 

• Internship runs May 27-July 24, 2026
• Approximately 30 hours per week (flexible scheduling available)
• Must be available to work every Wednesday evening; additional evening event coverage may be required
• Business casual dress typical; event days may vary
• Position based in-person in Sandusky, Ohio

Compensation

• Paid internship (hourly rate commensurate with experience)
